Once Upon a Thyme: Chapter One

Hello everyone, welcome to my newest Sims 4 legacy!

This is our founder, Laurel Thyme. I'll tell you more about her in a minute, but first let me tell you a little bit about this legacy.

The naming theme for this legacy is going to be herbs and spices. The name of the legacy was inspired by a random conversation my husband and I were having one evening while we were sitting at the dining room table. I don't remember how we got on the topic of it, but we were talking about how thyme is pronounced like time and so one of us jokingly said it the wrong way on purpose. Well, later that evening we decided to catch up on one of our favorite shows, Once Upon a Thyme, and he's like "Hey honey, wanna go watch Once Upon a THIGH-M" (saying it the wrong way intentionally of course) and I immediately knew I had to use this for a legacy. So I wrote it down on my dry erase board before I forgot, and well here we are several months later...

Anyway, this is going to be a regular start legacy and so Laurel did have enough money to buy the Knight right away. He is now safely tucked into the family inventory, never to be seen again.

Now Laurel has this huge lot all to her self. It's quite lonely, but hopefully not for long.

Before we take a closer look at our founder, let me go over some of the different rules I've chosen for this legacy:

Gender Law: Equality, this means that it doesn't matter what gender the child is, they're all eligible for heir.
Bloodline Law: Strict Traditional, this means that all heirs must be blood related to the founder and her descendants.
Heir Law: Random, this means that I will be using a dice or a number generator and I will be using that to decide on who is heir. I picked this because my friend Roxy is doing it in her legacy, The Gregory Legacy, and I liked the idea of it forcing me to try different personalities and aspirations that I normally wouldn't try.
Kid Law: I have decided that every generation will have three children.

Well, I think that about covers it. If I think of anything else, I'll add it when it comes up. Now, let's get a closer look at our founder!

As you can see, Laurel has the freelance botanist aspiration. I chose this, because since this is a spices and herb themed legacy, I thought it would be fitting.

Due to the lawn living aspect of a legacy, I gave her loves the outdoors and cheerful so she'll be happy pretty frequently.

And of course, she wouldn't be a true legacy founder with out the family oriented trait.

I decided to do what I did with the Cavanaugh family and with exception of this flower box, I didn't buy her anything. I wanted her to roll up a whim for it that way she would get aspiration points that I could use on traits and potions later on.

After planting these, she is already half way done with the first tier of her aspiration! Not bad for the first couple hours of a legacy.

We head down to the library to try to meet a husband for Laurel, and so she can work on the daily task for her job.

Unfortunately, there weren't any sims of interest there, however the librarian was pretty interesting - she had pink hair!

Laurel, what field are you going to work in?

"Secret agent. I heard you controller people are crazy and I want to get as much intel on you as possible."

Good luck with that, sorry I asked.

Once she finished browsing the intelligence database, she looked for frogs and dug up some fossils. We need some extra money before she goes to work, I don't want her to lawn live more than she has to.

After she finds all the stuff near the library, I had her check inside on more time for a young adult that could be a potential spouse.

That's when we see Donald Funk here. He's also a librarian -- man, this library sure likes to hire people with interesting hair, huh?

We also meet Mr. Sideeyes here, but he's an adult so he's not really my top pick for a future spouse.

"So I saw you were feeling flirty back there with Mr. Landgraab, are you two a couple?"

"No, no. I'm single, and before you ask, I'm not gay. I'm only into women."

I'm not kidding about the socialization thing, I hovered over him and he was talking to Gregory Landgraab and they were both feeling flirty. It was weird.

Anyway, Laurel and Donald continued to talk for a while before her needs got low and I had to send her home. But we did learn that Donald is a bookworm and he's single.

Laurel never did roll a whim for a bed or a fridge, but her energy and hunger bars were very low, so I went ahead and just bought them.

Of course, she'll have to live on cereal for a while since we don't have a counter or a stove.

"*grumble grumble* How dare you! *grumble grumble*"

Uh, Laurel, what's wrong?

"Oh nothing, just pretending it's your face because you're making me live outside."

But you love the outdoors.

"Oh...right. Well, I guess I'll just sculpt something pretty instead."

I have no idea why she was punching the clay to mold it, but she did manage to make this impressive bust.

Why so happy Laurel?

"I got a promotion on my second day of work. I'm the best."

That's awesome, you know how you can celebrate?

By working on your logic skill that you need for your next promotion.

Okay so, aren't these chairs awesome? I just bought Movie Stuff and I LOVE the bright colors of the furniture and stuff that came with it.

This picture serves two purposes:
1. Laurel has completed the first tier of her aspiration.
2. When she waters her plants, she gets water everywhere.

Right around this point, I thought Donald was a playable so I had sent Laurel to the gym to get something to eat and look around for a future spouse. However, after a conversation with some friends from SiMania I realized that he wasn't.

After sending her home, I had her invite Donald over where we find out that he has terrible taste in clothing. After seeing the look on his face though, I was worried he might be hotheaded or something, but after talking to him for a while we learn his other two traits are neat and creative.

Laurel and Donald share their first kiss and we are that much closer to having this legacy truly started.

I really love how sims get excited when they become boyfriend and girlfriend, I think it's sweet.

"Donald Funk, will you do me the great honor of being my husband?"

"Dangit Laurel, I wanted to ask you first! But yes, yes I'll marry you!"

Aw how sweet, right in the cluster of her "home." I had a great proposal set up earlier in the day, both of them in their party clothes, by the water. It was beautiful, but then Donald had to go to his librarian shift and so he left. And when he got off work and came over it was around 9 and I didn't want him to leave before they could get engaged again, so that's why it's a non-pretty proposal.

"So Donald, I was thinking, why wait until we get married for you to move in, why don't you just move in now?"

"I thought you'd never ask. This weird creator lady merged my family with a bunch of weirdos and it's getting weird living with them."

He didn't bring any money in, but I was waiting until he moved in to use the money she had saved up to build something. It's only a 6x6 box, but it's a roof. And I really wanted to experiment with foundations since I haven't tried it yet.

Honestly, there's still a lot of things I haven't tried in The Sims 4 yet, I've just not had the time.

See? Just a small 6x6 room with all the stuff she had before he moved in. The only thing new is the mirror, which I bought to give Donald his make over.

Because his aspiration is computer whiz, I thought this video game shirt would be fitting for him. Doesn't he look so much better after a make over? My husband thinks he's still ugly because of his big mouth, but let's just hope the kids take more after their mother in that aspect.

Donald took a job in the tech guru field, and his daily task is to play video games, so I sent him down to the library where he used to work so he could do just that.

That's when we saw his replacement -- another librarian with crazy hair! What's with this town?!

The next morning, the pair were married down by the water where I had originally wanted them to get engaged.

"Laurel, I promise to love you five-ever. That means I love you more than forever. And I promise to help provide for this family so we can have a house with actual rooms."

"Donald, that's the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me. It was so sweet, I forgot my own vows..."

Yeah, so there's a reason it took me forever to write my own vows for my wedding...

Despite the terrible vows I wrote them, they are now Mr. and Mrs. Thyme!

Of course, they celebrated with some woohoo! Though, considering they did it on an air mattress and I heard fireworks, I'm not sure how their mattress is still in one piece. But okay.

So we never did take a detailed look at Donald, so here you are. I'm hoping that we get a good genetic diversity this generation since he has some recessive genes. Though, I'm still not sure how they work in TS4 yet.

The first tier Donald's aspiration requires that he practice programming and play video games for 5 hours each, so since he still has a few days before he goes to work, I sent him to the library so he could work on his aspiration.

Well, I guess this librarian is a little more normal, but he looks so angry.

"You'd be bitter too if you were the only one without colored hair. I don't fit in anywhere."

I'm sorry Mr. Grumpy Pants. But it's not my fault, so go put books away or something.

Laurel has already finished the second tier of her aspiration and it's only been one week since the legacy started! I'd say this is a pretty successful start since she's halfway done.

"Haleigh?"

Yes Laurel?

"Where are my plants? And why is the Knight you swore I'd never see again on my front lawn staring at me?"

Uh, about that. See I had testingcheats on to try to move a dish you left on the driveway, and I accidentally made the mailbox your head and when I removed it as your head, well it got permanently stuck in the driveway and so you guys had to move to a new save file.

"Oh."

Yeah. I'm actually pretty upset about it because I'll miss those crazy librarians.

After adjusting to life in a new save file, Donald went to the library and started hacking. He only made $38 but hey, it's something.

Am I the only one concerned by the fact that sims can make a BLT without any form of heat source? Like, how are they cooking the bacon?

Laurel, you just got a promotion why do you look so unhappy?

"Because I'm tense. Because you're a terrible controller and you make me 'work hard' every day."

Well...I want you to get promoted, and make more money, and have a better house...

I thought this was actually pretty sweet -- without my prompting, Donald actually made a group meal so his wife would have food after she got out of the shower.

Since both Laurel and Donald need the computer for their daily tasks, they now own one. Of course, Laurel continuously gets the 'bored' moodlet when browsing for intelligence. Which makes it go really slow.

Speaking of negative moodlets, since Donald is a creative sim he kept getting tense because he hadn't been creative. That's when I realized I never bought them an easel, which would help us get money. I felt kind of dumb when I realized.

Guys guess what?! You have a bigger house!

And look, it has a bedroom! And a bathroom! And you have a better shower!

Now that they have a house with rooms, and they're both doing pretty well in their aspiration and their careers I decided it was finally time for them to conceive the first baby of generation two!

"I think some of this confetti is stuck in my butt crack."

Uh, that's nice Laurel.

"Donald, honey? Do you notice anything different about me? Do I look BIGGER to you?"

"Is this a trap? If I tell you yes, you're going to get mad and then cry because you're going to think I called you fat. If I say no you're going to think you're --"

"Donald, I'm PREGNANT! You're going to be a Dad!"

"I feel the need to go take a shower now."

Seriously, Donald gave her the "dangit I don't want kids" look and then immediately got in the shower...

As punishment, and because both Laurel and Donald are off for the next three days, Donald had to make a bunch of paintings. Bills were going to be due soon, and I wanted to make sure they had enough.

Poor Laurel had morning sickness almost every day of her pregnancy, though I don't know that I ever saw her throw up. Do sims even throw up when they're pregnant in sims four?

Laurel also completed the third tier of her aspiration, and now only has one more to go. She's been doing really well with her aspiration.

"The controller made me wet myself."

I did no such thing!

"Yes you did. I was just sitting there eating the cereal YOU told me to eat, when all of a sudden I'm standing here peeing myself."

First, you could have stopped eating to use the bathroom. Second, I TOLD you to stop eating to use the bathroom. And third, you literally peed like two feet from the bathroom door.

"Hmmpf. I'm going to shower and then go hide from you in my bed."

Have fun with that, Laurel.

"Laurel, your belly is so big! Do you think we're going to have twins?"

"I don't think so dear, some women just get larger than others when they're pregnant."

"I'm sorry for how I acted when you told me you were pregnant, I'm really excited to be a father."

Laurel really did get huge. And she didn't look like she was very comfortable. I can't even imagine the back pain that she's having there.

I usually have my sims go to the hospital to give birth, but I decided to try something different and let them stay home. It was actually a good idea, because Laurel was able to get some cleaning done which was nice.

Meet baby girl Ginger! The first baby of generation two! I really hope she gets her Mom's red hair since that's the main reason I picked the name.

"There, there my sweet girl. Mommy loves you very much and I just know your Daddy will too."

Donald was at work when Ginger was born, but he got home just in time to change her first dirty diaper.

I didn't want to leave the bassinet in the bedroom with Laurel and Donald because I didn't want Ginger to wake her parents up, so now their house is a little bigger!

The inside is pretty bare as you can see, but at least Ginger has her own room.

Oh, and no Laurel didn't have another accident, that's where the fridge used to be and it's broken.

The day after their house expansion, between the two of them getting promotions, they had enough money for a bed. So they celebrated their new bed by woohooing in it of course!

Right after their woohoo, Donald made himself a birthday cake. His wife was still asleep, so nobody was out there to celebrate with him. But he successfully became and adult anyway.

It would have been Laurel's birthday too, but apparently sims don't age when they're pregnant, so she's a few days behind Donald.

And it looks like she's going to be even more younger! She's pregnant again with the second baby of generation two!

"Donald, guess what? You're going to be a father again!"

"But I already am a father! Ginger was just born and we barely have any room in this house!"

"But, I thought you were excited about having kids?"

"I am, it's just, this doesn't seem smart. It's going to put so much stress on us financially."

"We can do it Donald, I know we can."

Ginger aged up into a child, which is a good thing too because Laurel will be going into labor in another day.

Most importantly though, she has red hair!

Here she is after her make over, she took after her Mom a little with the braids and boots with leggings. But I liked the dress because it fits with her randomly generated aspiration of artistic prodigy.

She's very cute. She got her hair color and skin color from her Mom, but she got her eye color and 'creative' trait from her father. However, it looks like she might have gotten her fathers mouth as well.

Using some of the small savings that the family has, I buy Ginger her art table so she can get started on her aspiration right away.

Since one of the tasks for the last tier of Laurel's aspiration requires that she grow a cowplant, Laurel starts fishing in hopes of getting the seed for it. I was worried that it would take forever but she got it on her second cast!

"Mommy, I want a baby sister. Can you make it be a girl?"

"Sorry sweetie, I don't have that kind of control."

"What about the weird controller lady, can she?"

"No, I'm afraid that's out of her control too."

"Well, I guess whatever you have it will be nice to have a sibling."

Guys, look at Ginger's pajamas. The texture detail is awesome. They actually LOOK soft.

Laurel went into labor not long after Ginger rubbed her belly. And I'm excited to meet the next baby!

Laurel looks terrified despite the fact she did it before, but she also looks adorable. She makes the cutest faces.

And it looks like Ginger got her wish! It's another baby girl! Her name is Juniper. Which, by the way, is what is used to give gin it's taste.

Since Donald is an adult now, which I know is a requirement of the next tier of his aspiration, I purchased this $3000 TV to give him credit for the "owned $3000 worth of electronics" that he needed to complete the second tier. Once he had credit for it, I sold it. Because they don't even have paint on their walls so they don't need an expensive TV.

Before I get Laurel pregnant again, I had her celebrate her birthday a day early so she could catch up to her husband a little. Ginger was too busy playing her violin, and Donald was sleeping, so nobody was there to help her celebrate.

However, once Donald woke up they celebrated and as a result, the last baby of this generation is now on the way!

"Donald, I'm pregnant again!"

"WHY? WHY? Look, Juniper is right in front of me, you literally just had her this morning. We have no paint on our walls. We don't need another baby."

"It's going to be fine Donald, this is the last one, I promise."

And that's where we will end this chapter! Stay tuned to meet Laurel and Donald's third baby, see who is going to be heir, and find out if the family will ever have paint on their walls! Until next time! xo
